COVID-19: How to set up a screening, testing and treatment facility

To stay ahead of the Coronavirus pandemic countries are going to have to rapidly increase their ability to test their citizens. This course has been designed to rapidly develop the competency of participants to create testing stations at healthcare facilities designed to ensure that it optimises the safety of patients and staff. Additionally, this course provides guidance on creating a treatment facility for patients with COVID-19. This course also focusses on COVID-19 preparedness at facilities that do not offer testing.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, a participant will be able to:

  • Explain COVID-19 in a global context
  • Explain the basics of COVID-19 and describe the importance of early diagnosis and treatment for COVID-19
  • Develop a facility master plan in response to COVID-19
  • Implement infection control measures and differentiate between the appropriate use of personal protective equipment
  • Describe the steps in setting up a screening facility
  • Describe the steps in setting up a testing facility
  • Explain what is required for a treatment facility
  • Implement a screening and testing facility that protects healthcare workers from infection and limits further spread of COVID-19

Who Should Enroll

All hospital or clinic managers and administrators who are involved in setting up screening, testing and treatment facilities.

Course Design

This is an eLearning course with a minimum completion duration of 3 hours.

  3. Facility readiness
  4. Personal Protective equipment
  5. Setting up a screening facility
  6. Setting up a testing facility
  7. Setting up a treatment facility
  8. Facility set up summary


Participants are assessed by means of a multiple-choice questionnaire for which a pass rate of 70% is required.


Accredited according to the HPCSA’s Medical and Dental Board Guidelines for Healthcare Professionals for 6 Clinical CEU’s on Level 2


FPD will award successful participants with a certificate of completion of this course.
